02/06 – Detox program – Week 4 – Getting prepped

While my friends are out of town, they’ve let me relax at their house.  I’m currently a little transient in my living situation, which another quick tip…don’t do this.  As my dad likes to say I’m squatting in an apartment.  I have an air mattress and a camping chair.  No real cooking supplies available so eating out or pawning myself off on friends.  This is not easy or fair to friends while going through a detox, unless you managed to con a friend into doing it with you like I have.

So back to my friend's house, I’m starting to create my sole drink.  Apparently “sole” refers to the Celtics believing that all life originated in the ocean.  Ok I buy that.  And then there are the Germans the word “sole” is derived from the Latin word “sol”, which means sun.  Now I didn’t think German derived from Latin, but I’m not a language specialist.  Apparently these are better thoughts around the sole drink than my line of thinking in which “sole” means the bottom of your foot or shoe.  I hope that this isn’t an indication of what is in store. 02/06 – Detox program – Week 3 – Days 3-7

Seriously having trouble getting all the liquid in.  I have failed more than I like to admit.  I’m supposed to consume about 1 gallon of liquid a day including the cranberry drink.  That is a lot of liquid!

Val’s finally moved off of week 1 and the Satan’s brew torture into week two.  I think she likes being behind a week as now I’m the sacrificial cow going to slaughter first.  Here are her thoughts on week 2, as she starts to limit dairy and wheat.   Continue Reading »

02/01 – Detox program – Week 3 – Day 2

I don’t love oatmeal.  Yet here I am 16 days into a detox program getting my oatmeal card punched at the check out line at the cafe at work.  I guess it is a good thing that work has some oatmeal program going on.  I don’t know what the oatmeal program is about, but I’m doing it.  I found that if a put a bottle of cinnamon on my oatmeal I don’t need sugar, as my body seems to attribute cinnamon with sweet items.  I also can pretend I’m eating a cinnamon oatmeal cookie.  I’m hopeless I know.

Today I happened to be wearing a sparkly pink tank top.  Sometimes you just need a little sparkle in your life, even if it does come from your clothes.  I think it caught some of my coworkers and friends off guard.  One of my friends just started laughing in the elevator as she choked out “I don’t see you as a sequins person.”  I responded that I like to keep people guessing.  Perhaps besides detoxing my body I also need some work on my wardrobe.  Mental note taken.  Continue Reading »

01/30 – Detox program – Week 3 – Getting prepped

I had to take an unexpected trip back to Minnesota the weekend leading into week 3.  I went back to help my Pops pack up a house.  My recommendation as you go through the detox program.  Do not travel someplace that you have favorite restaurants that you won’t be able to go to!  Continue Reading »

1/30 – Detox program – Week 2 – Days 2-7

I  find myself really getting the hang of this drinking your body weight in water.  In fact, I think I’m starting to adjust as I don’t have to be less than 30 seconds away from a bathroom.  However, this may also do to the fact that my salt intake may have gone up.  I think I’ve replaced potato chips for bread.  Not a great substitute I know.

Did you know that potato chips have added sugar as an ingredient?  Ok, I had no clue.  Only the Lay’s Ruffles brand seemed to be just potato, oil and salt.   For the record, I didn’t check every bag of potato chip.  I ran like I was being chased by an angry mob of healthy detox rebels after I found one bag that didn’t include sugar.  I then crammed them in my mouth to hide the evidence.  In my defense, I did choose a small bag of chips.

I call that progress.

1/24 – Detox program – Week 2 – Day 1

I spent all day thinking, dreaming and craving…you guessed it…wheat.  I wanted a bagel for breakfast with a donut for the meat filling.  Ok I guess I was also still craving refined sugar too.     Holy crow, this was just day 8 of a 30 day program.  I’m in deep trouble.

On a side note, the tincture in the morning is not that bad.  Sort of tastes like a shot of some medicine.  I find it much easier than the Satan’s brew.  I didn’t envy Val as she stayed in week 1.

01/23 – Detox program – Week 2 – Getting Prepped

I saw Val this past Sunday as we headed into week 2.  I proudly showed her my tinctures that I had purchased for the week.  I chose 2 from the list that Tiffany provided.  I chose a Healthy Liver Tincture, which that word “tincture” I can’t wrap my mouth around if I wanted to.  Way easier to write, but I digress.  Tincture 2 was Pau d’arco.  It is supposed to be a good anti-inflammatory and a whole bunch of other goodness for you.  Rest assured that I didn’t choose it for its ability to treat inflammation of the prostate gland.    I liked its more general anti-inflammatory and anti-infectious properties.

Val shockingly told me that she was planning on repeating week 1.  I was pretty sure that I felt a chill in the air…repeat week 1???  She felt that she hadn’t had the ability to read up on week 1 or really do what she needed to.  I commended her for moving forward with the Satan’s brew for anther week.  It was one of the things that I was looking forward to being done with in the detox program.

What I wasn’t looking forward to was limiting wheat.

01/23 – Detox program – Week 1 – Days 4-7

Things pretty much remained the status quo for the rest of week one.  Consume Satan’s brew first thing in the morning and spend the rest of my day trying to drink half my body weight in water.  Oh and then there was trying so VERY VERY hard to avoid refined sugar.

I also read ahead to what was in store for week 2.  Oh heck no way – limit wheat and dairy.  I added a new goal to week 1 after reading this.  Eat as much wheat as possible.  The dairy was already a long lost friend who I haven’t really seen aside from a faint memory and a hint of the scent on the air.   At least now my “bread to my butter” saying was completely shot to hell.   Perhaps we need to start saying You’re the rice to my sushi?
